| 1) | Remove the Outer Cover by pressing the Release Buttons on each side and lifting the cover, as shown in the first drawing below. |
| 2) | Remove the Center Cover by pressing the rear and front Release Buttons and lifting the cover, as shown in the second drawing below. |
| 3) | Remove larger debris, such as checks or cards from the check and card paths. for finer particles, use compressed air in a can that is commonly used to clean computer keyboards PC components. |
| 4) | Replace the Center Cover by pressing it down until it clicks. |
| 5) | Replace the Outer Cover by pressing it down until it clicks. |

Caution
To avoid damaging the read head, do not get the inside of the check path wet.
Clean the ouside of the Excella STX unit with a soft, damp cloth and wipe with a dry cloth. Open the unit.
When the
unit is open, check the path for debris.

| 1) | Remove the Outer Cover by pressing the Release Buttons on each side and lifting the cover, as shown in the first drawing below. |
| 2) | Remove the Center Cover by pressing the rear and front Release Buttons and lifting the cover, as shown in the second drawing below. |
| 3) | With the Outer and Center Covers removed, locate the Hinged Roller Tower and the Scanning Tower. Open the Towers as indicated in the third drawing below. On the Entry side, pull the Tab up and the Hinged Roller Tower down (to the left). On the Exit side, pull the Tab up and the Scanning Tower down (to the right). |
| 4) | Using a can of air, blow out the complete check path. |
| 5) | Using a cleaning swab (Magtek P/N 97200033), clean the Scan Bars shown in the figure below. |
| 6) | When complete, close the Hinged Roller Tower and the Scanning Tower by raising them until they snap into place. |
| 7) | Replace the Center Cover by pressing it down until it clicks. |
| 8) | Replace the Outer Cover by pressing it down until it clicks. |
